Table salt as thickeners for sulfonates or sulfates.

Sponsors

A thick viscosity shampoo will be correlated by end users with high concentration or "richness" (although it would work as well as thin ones).  Salts like simple table salt (sodium chloride) or ammonium chloride is a very effective viscosity enhancers with sulfonates (e.g., alkyl sulfonate) and sulfates (e.g., sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl ether sulfate).

Amount of salt is between 0.1  to 3%, and is depended on formulation composition, concentration and viscosity required.

[See Acid Thickener]

Gums are also effective thickeners.  Examples are guar, xanthan and cellulose gum which increases the viscosity by forming kind of a gel.  It also acts as foam stabilizer and suspending agents.
