Thick Toilet Bowl Cleaner using ethoxylated aliphatic amines (acid thickener)

Somebody emailed me and asked for a thick toilet bowl cleaner formulation. In acid toilet bowl cleaner, the acid is the cleaner. So you have to thicken the acid to prolong its stay in the surface you are cleaning for better result. There is an acid thickener that I encountered a few years back.

Product name: Acid Thickener
Manufacturer: Tomah Products
Chemical Family: Ethoxylated alkyl amines

It is a cationic surfactant designed to build viscosity in acid media. It may be used alone in hydrochloric acid, or in combination with sodium chloride (salt) when used with other acids (such as phosphoric, sulfuric, hydrofluoric, citric, oxalic, etc.) Varying the use level of Acid Thickener (and salt) will vary the viscosity build. This acid thickener provides thickening, wetting, corrosion inhibition, and perfume solubilization. Since it provides wetting, it may eliminate the need to use nonionics for wetting and perfume solubilization.
Note: Acid Thickener is not for use in nitric acid.

Suggested uses:

Acid bowl cleaners
Acid truck cleaners
Building restoration cleaners
Other vertical surface cleaners
