What is endosulfan?


Endosulfan is a broad spectrum organochlorine insecticide for the control of a large variety of insects and mites in crops.



Sold under brand names: Thionex, Thiodan, Phaser, and Benzoepin.

Appearance: Aromatic Solvent odor (Thionex 2EC)

Odor: Clear light brown liquid (Thionex 2EC)

Chemical Class: Organochlorine Insecticide (Thionex 2EC)

Uses: to control insect pests including whiteflys, aphids, leafhoppers, Colorado potato beetles, cabbage worms, and other pests

Potential Health Effects: Eye -may cause irritation to eye irritation including redness, tearing, and blurred vision. Skin - highly toxic, may be fatal if absorbed by the skin. Ingestion - moderately toxic. Inhation - highly toxic may cause irritation to the upper respiratory tract and depression of the central nervous system. (Thionex 2EC)

Toxicity: is acutely neurotoxic to both insects and mammals, including humans

Environmental Toxicology: highly toxic to fish, crustaceans and mollusk, and slightly toxic to birds (Thionex 2EC)
