Alternative Paint Stripper - Methylene Chloride Free

Sponsors

The trend today is to move away from halogenated solvents, and methylene chloride or dichloromethane (DCM) is one example of halogenated solvents. Methylene chloride health hazard issue does not inhibit formulators to use it because of its excellent performance on strippers. But regulations, just like in Europe, are forcing them to search for alternative. One alternative is to use DBE or dibasic esters. DBE are non-flammable, readily biodegradable, oxygenated solvents that can be used in a wide variety of applications. DBEs are non-corrosive, are not skin sensitizers and have a mild odor. Below is the first of seven paint stripper formula series from Invicta. The other formulas will be posted later.
