Solvent Based Paint Stripper

Here is another formulation of Noveon. It uses Carbopol 676 Polymer. Paint strippers need polymers like this to prolong contact time between the paint and the stripper especially on vertical parts. According to Noveon, this polymer “ imparts vertical cling and increased contact time for this paint stripper formulation. The product also provides increased safety through reduced bounce-back and misting. These features increase the performance of the formulation and provide convenience to the consumer.”

Procedure:
1. Combine the dibasic ester and the pyrrolidone solvents together.
2. Using moderate agitation (800 rpm) provided by a variable speed mixer and an impeller suitable for general mixing and blending operations, disperse or screen the Carbopol
® polymer into the solvent solution. Mix the slurry for approximately 15 min. or until the slurry is homogeneous.
3. Add the Ethomeen C-25. Mix until homogeneous.
4. Add the water. Mix until thickening occurs.
